A search dog does not find people by luck. It works scent — skin cells, decomposition gases, disturbed ground — in wind, water, and rubble, and it tells its handler what it has found in a trained, repeatable way. Missouri Search Dogs LLC exists to put that capability in the hands of the agencies who need it.
Who We Are
We are a Missouri-based unit of professional trainers and volunteer handlers with backgrounds in law enforcement, emergency services, and canine training. Our teams respond to requests from police, sheriffs' offices, fire districts, coroners, and emergency management agencies across Missouri and neighboring states.
There is no cost to the requesting agency. We train year-round on our own time so that a call at 2 a.m. is met with a rested handler, a certified dog, and equipment already staged in the truck.

Tracking & Trailing Dogs
A tracking dog works a single person’s scent. Given an article carrying that person’s odor — a pillowcase, a car seat, a shirt — the dog discriminates that scent from every other and follows where the person actually went, including across pavement, through neighborhoods, and into vehicles. Tracking dogs work harness-and-line and tell the handler direction of travel, which often matters more than the find itself.

A live find dog is not looking for a particular person — it is looking for any living human in a defined search area. Working off-lead in a grid, it reads wind currents to locate the cone of human scent, then returns to the handler with a trained alert and leads back to the subject. This is the fastest way to clear large tracts of ground or a collapsed structure.

HRD dogs are trained on the odor of human decomposition, from recently deceased through skeletal remains and residual scent in soil. They work land searches, buried remains, and — from the bow of a boat — water recovery, where scent rises through the water column and the dog’s indication narrows the area for divers or sonar.

Every operational dog holds a current certification from a recognized body and is re-tested on a maintenance schedule. Certification expired means the dog does not deploy.

We integrate into the requesting agency’s incident command. We do not run our own parallel operation, and we do not talk to media.
Documented Work
Search areas, weather, wind, times, and canine indications are recorded and provided to the requesting agency in writing.
